The last walk along the lake this summer, that is. Next week we return to Mt Pleasant Cemetery
and an 8:30 start. Six of us turned up
at 8 to walk west. Unfortunately (?) our
walk was cut short by an interruption in the path so we returned for
breakfast.
They don't look too disappointed, do they....? |
At breakfast, talk turned to dance. (Our topics always range widely.) It reminded me of this thought from
choreographer Martha Graham.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening
that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of
you in all of time, this expression is unique.
And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it
will be lost. The world will not have
it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how
it compares with other expressions. It
is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel
open.” (Italics mine.)
When I came across this passage I thought, “This could be a
mantra for life!” It can be applied to
any part of life – walking races this weekend, how we react to a beautiful fall
day, the ways we support one another,
how we age, - really, how we live.
I’ll call on my friends to help me to live up to it!
